Over the years I have trained teams, offered train-the-trainer programs, and supported facilitators, leaders, and community builders in cultivating cultures of care — whether for a single retreat or for organizations with hundreds of volunteers and employees.

I have witnessed visionaries with beautiful ideas long to create transformational spaces, yet struggle to hold people in ways that are truly integrative, caring, and sustainable. No matter how inspiring a vision may be, when leaders are not resourced to meet people with presence and care, the impact often falls short or fades once the experience ends. Throughout this path, I have witnessed the profound impact — both personal and communal — of ways of relating and leading that are embodied, relational, and accountable, as well as the harm that can arise when it is not.

When people feel genuinely seen, heard, and held, real healing and transformation become possible. I am often asked to support leaders in tending the integration after retreats — because what happens afterward, when people return to their lives and communities, can be as essential as the experience itself. I believe the times we’re in are calling for moment to moment integration,  where connection and ceremony are lived, not compartmentalized.

The same is true within organizations and communities. I have seen what happens when there is no embodied culture of care: burnout, fatigue, poor retention, and the quiet moral injury that arises when people feel disconnected from the calling that once inspired them.

Strong, intentional culture is not “nice to have.” It is essential to the wellbeing of people and the health of the whole. Leadership that is reflective, relational, and accountable is at the heart of that culture, and what I believe people are yearning to remember today.
